It’s never too late. The right time is NOW!

I would like to share with you a section from Julia Cameron’s book, “Finding Water”. I highly recommend all of Julia Cameron’s books, especially “The Artists’s Way”, as it’s designed to help you overcome creative blocks, get more connected to your core, and guide you to live a more fulfilled life.

I think the exterpt below might resonate with you, like it did with me.  Enjoy!

“I was fifty-four years old when I finally began taking piano lessons.  All through my forties I had bought the excuse that I was too old to start something new.  Then one day it occured to me that I would age whether i knew piano or not and that I might respect myself more as the world’s oldest novice than as someone who stayed blocked and yearning.  I began to search for a teacher, someone who could accomodate an older student who was trying to learn just for the sake of learning not with an agenda of becoming an accomplished pianist.  When I found I found Mr. Freiberg’s ad, it mentioned that he loved Broadway as well as the classics.  I did, too, and so I thought we might be a match.

…We are never too old to be young at heart.  Being young at heart means simply being willing to be a beginner.

…I took courage to allow myself to pursue something that I loved.  I had to allow myself the luxury of learning.  I had to focus on the process and not the finished product.  I could not think about the distance I had to travel before I could call myself a pianist.  I had to remember that I was learning to play the piano and that the word “play” was operative here.”
